PART III: AGEING WELL NATURALLY (CONCLUSION PART 1)

Let us add more years to life and more healthy life to years . . .

I hope most of us now understand that the human body is regenerative. This means that virtually every part of our body is in a state of repair on a minute by minute basis. Every 7 to 15 days, the external layer of our joints and skin sheds, regenerates and renews itself. It is therefore obvious that GLYCATION is truly one of the leading causes for premature aging, or our cells becoming compromised. Like chemotherapy, glycation attacks the cells of the body that replicate DNA at a high turnover rate such as the hair, skin and joints. Glycation is also believed to be the leading catalyst for cancers to reoccur and relocate to other parts of the body

We all grow old, but our bodies are designed to age slowly and remarkably well. Most of what we see and fear as old age is decay, but decay is only one choice. Growth is the other choice. We choose whether our new cells are created strong or weak, growing or decaying. Our cells do not care which choice we make, they just follow our directions.

Of all the healthy lifestyle strategies that have a significant impact on longevity, normalizing your insulin and leptin levels is probably the most important. Cutting out sugar and grains and increasing exercise are two effective ways to accomplish this. But to truly optimize your longevity and slow the biological clock, your entire lifestyle needs to be taken into account. Here are the rest of my top “ANTI-AGING” or “ANTI-AGEs” recommendations.

THE ANTI-AGING, ANTI-AGEs LIFESTYLE… THE NEW “YOU”

People who live the healthiest lifestyles as they get older cut their mortality by about two-thirds compared to people who live the worst lifestyles. Perhaps in the moment it seems like a fair trade off to eat lechon and ensaymada at the cost of a few years of life, but people rarely take into account what those last years will actually look like. Are those foods worth spending the last 5-10 years of life in and out of the hospital?

• Exercise regularly – The hard reality of our biology is that we are built to move. Exercise is the master signaling system that tells our cells to grow instead of fade. When we exercise, that process of growth spreads throughout every cell in our bodies and makes us functionally younger—a lot younger. True biological aging is a surprisingly slow and graceful process. You can live out your life in a powerful, healthy body if you are willing to put in the work. Studies repeatedly show that regular, moderate-to-vigorous exercise can help prevent or delay the onset of hypertension, obesity, heart disease, osteoporosis, and the falls that lead to hip fracture. Although a lifetime of regular exercise is ideal, it’s never too late to start. Even individuals in their 70’s can substantially increase both strength and endurance with exercise. Men who go from sedentary to fit cut their risk of dying from a heart attack by 75% over five years.

Women cut their risk by 80%—and heart attacks are the largest single killer of women. Both men and women can double their leg strength with three months of exercise, and most of us can double it again in another three months. This is true whether you are in your 30s or 90s.

Learn how to effectively cope with stress – Stress has a direct impact on inflammation, which in turn underlies many chronic diseases. Developing effective stress-coping mechanisms is a major longevity-promoting factor. Meditation, prayer, physical activity and exercise are all viable options that can help maintain emotional and mental equilibrium.

Eat a healthy diet focused on fresh, organic foods – Over the years we discovered that it is extremely difficult to get people to eat healthy. Nonetheless, a nutrition plan based on simple, natural, whole foods is the key to increasing your chances of living a longer, healthier life.

Optimize Your Vitamin D Levels– This is a very powerful and inexpensive intervention that can have profound benefits on your health. Sunlight exposure is the only reliable way to generate vitamin D in your body. You can do this for free by allowing yourself limited, unprotected sun exposure of 15-20 minutes in the early morning.

Use coconut oil – Another excellent anti-aging food is coconut oil, which is known to reduce risk of heart disease and help lower cholesterol. It is doubly beneficial because it can be eaten and applied directly to your skin. Coconut oil can be used in place of other oils and fats for all your cooking needs.

Avoid as many chemicals, toxins, and pollutants as possible – This includes tossing out your toxic household cleaners, soaps, personal hygiene products, air fresheners, pesticides, and insecticides, and replacing them with non-toxic alternatives.

Avoid pharmaceutical drugs – Pharmaceutical drugs kill thousands of people prematurely every year as an expected side effect of the action of the drug. If you adhere to a healthy lifestyle, you will most likely never need them in the first place.

REMEMBER, we can no longer put the care of our body in the hands of others. Our choices are the keys to vibrant health. We choose whether to have healthy and vibrant cells that act young or sedentary cells that act old and sickly. May we all age gracefully and youthfully!

Meanwhile, here is the Green Secret’s “Age-less Elixir” juice. (Make sure to scrub and wash all ingredients well before juicing). It is a MUST to use organic ingredients only.

• ½” knob ginger, unpeeled if organic
• 2 cups pineapple
• 5 calamansi (juiced)

Juice all ingredients in your masticating juicer. Stir and serve at room temperature or chilled, as desired.
